Vi har altid været heldige med at have de fedeste musikere til at spille med os. Nu hvor vi er blevet en trio, og har fået et et nyt medlem i Bjarke Falgren, synes vi at det er på sin plads, at fortælle lidt om ham.
Bjarke er en virtuos på rigtig mange strengeinstrumenter. Det er ligegyldigt om det er en violin, cello, bratsch, cavaquinho, bandolin eller banjo. Og listen kunne blive ved. Bjarke mestrer dem alle. Bjarke har spillet med mange forskellige kunstnere, og i mange forskellige genrer. Han har vundet flere Danish Music Awards, og er i det hele taget anderkendt hele vejen rundt. Han har det smukkeste klang og er det rareste og dejligste menneske. Vi er så vildt glade for at have fået Bjarke med i CATBIRD.
We have always been fortunate enough to have the best musicians to play with us. And now that we are a trio and have a new member in Bjarke Falgren, we think that it is appropriate to tell a little about him.
Bjarke is a virtuoso on so many stringed instruments. It does not matter if it’s a violin, cello, viola, cavaquinho, bandolin or banjo. And the list could go on. Bjarke master them all. Bjarke has played with many different artists, and in many different genres. He has won several Danish Music Awards, and is in general highly acclaimed all around. He has the most beautiful tone and sound, and is the nicest and sweetest person. We are extremely happy to have gotten Bjarke into CATBIRD.

CATBIRD er klar med et nyt fantastisk koncert setup. Efter en afstikker til det rockede på “Sweet Cry”, vender CATBIRD tilbage det mere drømmende og poetiske, som man bl.a. kunne høre på albummet “Among Us”. Men det er med en ny lyd og et nyt setup.
En trio bestående af
Billie Koppel (vokal)
Frank Hasselstrøm (klaver, keys, horn, perc, guitar)
Bjarke Falgren (violin, bratsch, cello, guitar, perc.).
Det er derfor med stor glæde at kunne præsentere CATBIRD IN CONCERT med deres nye setup, der er lige velegnet til både store og mindre spillesteder.
CATBIRD’s musik fremstår i dag som et crossover mellem det akustiske og elektroniske.
Den drømmende og poetiske lyd, giver én fornemmelsen af, at være på en rejse i et filmisk univers.

I can hardly control the star gun, when I hear Billie Koppel’s sweet and raw vocals in Catbird’s “Sweet Cry”: Intense, raw, beautiful, but also wildly dirty garage from the South Harbour of Copenhagen and New York. For example the song “On a Runaway Train”. It sounds like from the time when beat just was called Beat, and sung by her mother, Annisette, but now with a little more raw rock and roll under, and Sort Sol and Raveonettessounds from the musicians. Billie Koppel and Frank Hasselstroem simply have an international sound and format. Beware – I shoot live rounds and give it 6 out of 6 stars!

“Sweet Cry” was recorded in Copenhagen and New York, and was mixed by none other than Bryce Goggin (Joan As Policewoman, Pavement, Anthony and the Johnsons).
With some of Denmarks finest musicians like Anders Christensen (Sort Sol), Jakob Høyer (Raveonettes), Søren Dahl Jeppesen and Anders Holm (Savage Rose), Billie and Frank once again proves, that the band CATBIRD can’t be boxed in one musical category. On “Sweet Cry”, CATBIRD travels to the big dark pulsating city. CATBIRD have made a rockpunkpop album.
HOW COME YOU MADE A ROCK ALBUM ?
Billie and Frank explains: “When we started jamming, this time with Frank on guitar instead of piano, we just began playing some uptempo rockin’ stuff. We don’t know why. We just had a lot of energy. One of the first songs was “On a Runaway Train”. All the songs on “Sweet Cry” were made this way, with us jammin in the studio. We had some long sessions, where we played for 1-2 hours without stopping at all. We recorded everything, and most of the time, there were like 2 or 3 songs in one of the long jams. Most of the songs ended up on the album. When we were done, we had to find someone who understood our music. Billie had heard a cd with Joan as Policewoman, and loved the sound. She found out that it was Bryce Goggin, and long story short, we contacted him, he loved the music, and wanted to mix the album. And so he did, and we’re thrilled about the work and passion Bryce has put in to the music.
